CLASS LEVELS & PREREQUISITES:
Current Student level recommendations are made in June for the following Season. Those who are eligible to sign up for Level 2 or 3 will see those options available for registration for the upcoming Season. It is best, where applicable, that students move up to the next level. This ensures our students and programs are evolving and progressing.
If for some reason you do not see appropriate classes listed for your child in your Parent Portal under Register for classes - simply contact iflyadmin@wonderbolt.ca.
New students start at Level 1.
A placement class is required to be assessed for moving up to Levels 2 & 3, etc. To arrange, contact iflyadmin@wonderbolt.ca.
Performance Groups are by invite only and require signing up for at least one class per week in addition to the performance group.
If by accident students are signed up for the incorrect class, they will be moved to the appropriate class for their age/level.
The classes are structured into Ages & Levels in order to provide the safest, most progressive and satisfying class experience for all. Developing strength and proper technique in Foundation Skills is of utmost importance. It is crucial that skills are taught in a safe, structured manner, in a class that meets everyone’s needs.
Moving through levels is not time based, but rather based on successful completion of skills required for each level. Those who are eligible to sign up for Level 2 or 3 will see those options available for registration for the upcoming Season. It is best, where applicable, that students move up to the next level. This ensures our students and programs are evolving and progressing.
Expectations for All Aerial students regardless of Age or Level are:
Positive attitude, interest in classes, willingness to learn and receive direction and critique, respect for all instructors and other students, active participation in building skills, strength, and vocabulary, safety awareness and compliance.
Level 1 - A starting place for all.
Focus is on safely learning the foundations of Aerial Arts. Successful completion of Foundational Skills are prerequisites to move forward to the next level.
Level 2 - Prerequisite: Successful completion of Level 1. Confidence, competency and safely performing foundational skills.
Progressions of skills into more complex movements and sequences.
Level 3 - Prerequisite Successful completion of Levels 1 and 2.
Progressions beyond the Foundational skills from Level 1 and 2. Progressions involving safety, etiquette, technique, and endurance for students interested in building performance skills. The typical level 3 student has been practicing for many years.

SHOWCASE PARTICIPATION POLICY:
iFLY Aerial Arts is a performing art and therefore the showcases are the highlight of the Aerialists experience. iFLY Aerial Arts emphasizes a curriculum of technical and artistic instruction. All iFLY students, regardless of level, are encouraged to demonstrate their aerial skills and artistic development with performances in the December and June showcases. If there are any concerns around performing, please email: iflyadmin@wonderbolt.ca to discuss.
The June showcase is the “Highlight” of the whole year as this is a culmination of how hard Aerialists have trained. The anticipation and excitement will build each week as the performance date nears.
Participation in these showcases is considered an integral part of the Aerial Arts Program Experience. The showcases are something for Aerialists to look forward to and to strive for. Being part of a performance helps build self-esteem and self-confidence and gives students a chance to showcase the results of all their hard work, dedication, and progress on a theatre stage with professional lights, audio, etc.
The showcases belong to the performers. They are the stars, and what’s important is how they will remember their experience.
The rehearsal process is also a tremendous learning experience. It helps the students develop retention skills, and by working with their classmates on group performance, they learn the positive aspects of working as a team to create the best result. Students will have a designated time for dress rehearsals.
Class Attendance is very important for each student, their classmates and teachers who all have to work together to put off amazing Showcases and participation is assumed.

Guide to Independent Training
Purpose
Independent Training is dedicated time for individual practice of skills you've already learned and feel confident performing. While the staff is present for safety and equipment support, this is not an instructional period.
Etiquette
Individual Focus
● This is YOUR time to work on YOUR practice
● No teaching or instructing other students
● Each person is responsible for their own training
● Save skill sharing for regular classes with our instructors
Training Expectations
● Practice only moves and sequences you've previously learned in class
● Save new skills for regular class sessions with instructor supervision
● If unsure about a skill, wait to practice it during a formal class
Smart Training Practices
● The 2-hour slot is a maximum, not a target
● Listen to your body - quality training over quantity
● Build breaks into your practice - Take time to stretch, Include rest periods, incorporate conditioning work, Stay hydrated
Safety First
● Always check your equipment before use
● Keep your practice area clear
● Maintain awareness of others in the space
● Stop if you feel overly fatigued
Training Ideas for Breaks
● Floor stretching sequences
● Strength exercises
● Movement flow practice
● Choreography planning
● Active recovery
Remember: Training smart prevents injuries and leads to better progress in the long run. Don't feel pressured to fill the entire time slot - it's better to have a focused, shorter session than to push beyond your limits.
